SPRING 2019 INFO

Spring will be here before we know it!  The upcoming 2019 Spring season will mark our 5th anniversary since Denver United Lacrosse started knocking on the doors at local schools - with nothing but a bag of balls and a bucket of lacrosse sticks in tow - to introduce the sport of lacrosse! During that time we have introduced over 5,000 kids to lacrosse through our Gym Clinic Program in NW and Central Denver, in addition to, offering more extensive programming to hundreds of full-time participants via teams, learn to play, camps, and clinics.  As a program, we have a lot to be proud of and a bright future ahead!  To celebrate, we have a new look, website, and registration system to make your life easier as we embark on this new chapter together! As always, thank you for all of your support - none of this would be possible with you!

Speaking of registration - it’s time to sign up for the Spring!  To reserve space, please register your kid(s) for the Spring Season so we can start the planning process and guarantee your kid(s) a spot!  Most of our teams are at or near capacity based on the "Spring Interest Form" sent out earlier this Fall, so it’s imperative that you reserve space now so you don't miss out!

Denver United Lacrosse will continue to introduce the sport of lacrosse through its Gym Clinic Program this Fall and Winter, which generates a lot of interest in our program and converts soccer/baseball players into new full-time lacrosse participants!  As always, if you're interested in participating in our program or know someone who might be, please don't hesitate to reach out!

REGISTRATION IS OPEN!

Spring Registration is now open!  Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our new registration system and get your kid(s) signed up for the Spring!  Please let me know if you have any questions.

PROGRAMMING INFO

Learn to Play

Mastering the fundamentals is the most important aspect of developing a new skill! We dedicate the beginning of each practice to sound fundamental lacrosse development achieved by drills that emphasize proper throwing, catching, communication, and ground balls. The second part of practice is geared towards reinforcing and implementing the fundamentals learned by playing games and scrimmages.

Ages: Boys & Girls Ages 4-6

Season: April-May

Practice: 1x or 2x per week

Girl’s Teams

Welcome to lacrosse girls! The Spring will offer girls an opportunity to play on an all girls team which consists of practice and games throughout the season. We believe that mastering the fundamentals is the most important aspect of developing a new skill! We dedicate the beginning of each practice to sound fundamental lacrosse development achieved by drills that emphasize proper throwing, catching, communication, and ground balls. The second part of practice is geared towards reinforcing and implementing the fundamentals learned by playing games and scrimmages.

Ages: 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade

Season: March, April, and May

Practice & Games: 2 Practices Per Week and Games on Weekends

Boy’s Teams

Spring 2019 entails more fun and games! We will be fielding teams as young as Kindergarten and as old as 4th grade. Players will get the opportunity to participate on a formal team that plays in a formal youth lacrosse league. Teams will practice twice a week (March through May) and play games against other youth organizations on weekends. In addition to teams, we will continue to grow the sport in the Highlands neighborhood through our gym program and learn to play clinics.

Ages: K, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade

Season: March, April, and May

Practice & Games: Choose 2 Practices Per Week and Games on Weekends

Academy

Formerly known as Friday Night Lights, Denver Lacrosse Academy is an advanced training opportunity for players who have passed the Denver United Lacrosse Wall Ball Test. The practices will have a small group setting with a favorable coach to player ratio which players will get more reps and individual instruction. The Wall Ball Test is required in order for players to demonstrate their stick skill proficiency that is necessary to actively participate in the advanced clinic. Every player in our program is capable of passing the Wall Ball Test with enough practice and discipline. Stick skills are the single most important skill in the sport of lacrosse. Please refer to the wall ball test and let me know if you have any questions.

Ages: All ages are eligible but must pass Wall Ball Test.

Dates: March, April, May

SPRING SCHEDULE

The Final Team Schedule for the Spring will be released no later than February 15th, if not sooner.  We reserve fields through Denver Parks and Recreation (DPR). The system honors field permits on a historical basis, although, historical permits can be trumped by internal DPR groups and field closures.  Based on our historical permits, we should have fields on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. There is a chance that one of our historical permits for Sloan’s Lake will be closed this Spring due to the current poor condition of the field.  As a result, we will be working hard in the offseason to procure additional fields in the Highlands/Sloan’s Lake area. DPR will issue historical permits by January 15th and new field permits will be issued by February 15th. Hence, why I plan to have the final Spring Schedule released no later than February 15th.

Teams will begin practicing in early March and Learn to Play starts the first week of April. The fields don’t open until Saturday, March 16th, so we’ll try to reserve turf fields on Sundays to hold practices for our teams during the first part of March until Denver Parks open.

Due to all of the different factors playing into the Spring Schedule, I have provided two tentative schedules. Schedule A is best case scenario which historical permits are honored and new fields are reserved on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Schedule B assumes the worst case scenario which all teams would be forced to practice on the same days and we’re unable to reserve new fields. Please remember, the schedule is not finalized and is subject to change. We’re doing everything possible to finalize the schedule and will send as soon as it’s available.  I apologize if this is too much information, but I like to keep families informed about the scheduling process and the implications it has on the Spring Schedule. Thank you for your patience!
